There are
many key terms used in media, and I learnt the key terms that relate to
magazine covers and their features. These are the key terms;
- Masthead and this is the main title of the magazine, this creates recognition for the magazine and a brand.
- Skyline also features on many magazines, this is text at the very top of the cover that is used to advertise something important about the magazine or the issue selling that week or month, and it can also be known as a strap line.
- Slogan of a magazine is a catchy phrase that is associated with the magazine and that becomes well known as a phrase related to the magazine.
- Anchorage text is text that is associated to the main image and that offers a small explanation as to what the main image actually is,
- Main image is the images that fills the cover or the majority of the cover.
- Sell lines are small bits of text that lure the reader into buying the magazine.
- Direct address is when the audience feel the magazine is targeting them directly through text (for example “you”) or through images (for example eye contact in an image).
- The colour scheme mean the different colours used on a magazine covers and there will often be a splash colour that isn’t part of the normal colour scheme and changes for each issue.
