Magazine Cover Codes and Conventions

During my first few media lessons I have learnt about many new concepts and ideas. We started off looking into magazine covers and the features that they include. I learnt that magazines in general and magazines that cater for a certain target audience or are of a certain genre will have the same or similar codes and conventions that they feature on their magazine cover. Some codes and conventions that all magazines have would be a masthead, a bar code  a main image, a colour scheme, sell lines etc. Then when a magazine is targeted  towards a specific target audience or is of a certain genre the codes and convention will be more specific, for example a rock music magazine will have a colour scheme of a dark colour (usually black), often white is also used in the colour scheme and then one other bright colour (for example red or yellow), on the other hand a magazine targeted at young teenage girls will have a colour scheme mainly consisting of pink, purple and other colours that are stereo typically associated with that target audience. This 'Top of the Pops' magazine shows typical features of a music magazine targeted
 at young teenage girls.
